Dear Cowan Parents and Guardians,

It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the newly appointed Principal of Cowan Elementary School. I am honored to have the opportunity to lead a school with such a rich tradition of excellence in education! My career in education began back in 2003 right here at Cowan Elementary School, where I was a student teacher. During that time, I also volunteered at the high school as an assistant coach for the Varsity Boys’ Basketball Team.

Since that time, I have been 100% dedicated to the field of education. I taught 4th grade at Yorktown Elementary for 9 years. While at Yorktown, I coached junior high track & field, 8th grade girls’ basketball, and varsity girls’ basketball. After obtaining my Masters Degree in School Administration, I became an Assistant Principal for Marion Community Schools. I spent three years as an Assistant Principal and then became Principal, which is where I remained for the next four years until coming to Cowan.

I, along with our entire Cowan team, will work hard to continue the legacy of success established by Cowan Elementary. We will strive to build strong relationships with parents, students, and community partners. Together, we will focus on building character, teaching the College Career and Readiness Standards, using and understand data so as to drive instruction, and we will work to provide each student with what he or she needs to be successful. Every student can and will learn!

All of us here at Cowan Elementary are excited to begin the 2019-2020 school year, and I am confident this year is going to be the best year yet! Our students will be presented with academic experiences that are rigorous, relevant, and help them build relationships while making real-world connections.  As your Principal, it is important to me that every single person who walks through our doors - teachers, students, parents, community members... that they all feel welcomed, safe, and cared for.

We are all on the same team, which means we all have the same goal in helping every student find success. I look forward to getting to know our students and their families.  Please also know that if there is ever a need to discuss any concerns that may arise, I am only an email or phone call away.

It’s going to be a wonderful year, and I will see you very soon!
