The Big Idea is a program that may offer meat, fruits and vegetables, refrigerated and frozen items and/or dry goods along with other community resources. The next Big Idea giveaway will be January 22 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Please bring bags to take food home. Additionally, the Blackhawk Closet will be set up with all sizes of clothing, shoes, coats, hygiene and cleaning products The Blackhawk Closet will also be accepting donations. Please park by and enter door #7. All families with a child in Cowan Schools are welcome.
The Children’s Clothing Center of Delaware County, Inc., offers new and used clothing to Delaware County students in need. If you are interested, please contact the elementary office for a referral from the principal. The referral can then be completed and taken to the center. Hours of operation are listed on the referral form.
Walk-A-Mile Dress Up Week
Please help us support The Muncie Mission’s Walk-A-Mile February 21 event by donating $1 each day of dress up week.

*1/28 - Wacky Wednesday (silly socks, crazy hair, and mismatched clothes are encouraged)

*1/30- Rock your favorite pair of shades (sunglasses)!
*The class that raises the most money will get to put their teacher in “time-out” while students enjoy extra recess!
Cowan Creativity Camp
(led by BSU Students)
Who: Students in Grades 4, 5 & 6
When: Wednesdays, after school, until 5:00 pm
(starting January 28 and ending with a celebration on April 15)
Where: Library and Various Places on Cowan’s
Campus
Why: To have fun and celebrate creativity (writing, drawing, designing and more)
This is an amazing opportunity for students to have fun with Ball State future educators while also learning and gaining confidence in their creativity using writing, digital design and more. BSU students are eager to share their passions (cooking, animals, and sports – to name a few).
Contact Mrs. Underwood to reserve a spot; we are only able to accept the first 22 students; so, parents please email to sign up asap (tunderwood@cowan.k12.in.us).
KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT 2026-2027
Cowan Elementary School kindergarten enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Parents will be notified by letter as to what time they should attend. Please bring your child, his/her birth certificate, and two (2) pieces of verification showing proof of residency in the Cowan school district. Examples of proof of residency are: driver’s license, state I.D., voter registration, insurance forms, lease agreement, purchase agreement (if it denotes residency), property tax payment, mortgage receipt, moving bill, or utility bill. The document must show address. Families living outside of the Cowan district may apply to attend as well and are required to complete a transfer application. If you know of a child who will be entering kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year, please pass this form along to them or ask them to call the office. Children must be five (5) years of age by August 1, 2026. Please return this registration form by March 13, 2026 to: Cowan Elementary School, ATTN: Mrs. Breedlove, 1000 West Co.
