FREE ATHLETIC PHYSICALS

• IU Health will be at Cowan Jr/Sr High School again this year to give FREE athletic physicals for all Cowan students that will be in grades 5-12 in the 2026-2027 school year.  The athletic physicals will be given on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 from 5:30pm-7:30pm in the Cowan Jr/Sr High School main gym.  Please enter at entrance #2.  Parents are welcome to come with their students.  If a parent does not attend with the student, the IHSAA Pre-Evaluation Form must be completely filled out and signed by the parent before the athletic physical can be administered by the doctors.

• The IHSAA Pre-Evaluation Form (Athletic Physical) will be attached to this email.  Hard copies of the athletic physical will be available in the main offices of both the Jr/Sr high school and the elementary as of Monday, March 9, 2026.  Hard copies will also be available the night of the FREE athletic physicals at entrance #2 as you enter.  These athletic physicals will be good through Saturday, June 12, 2027.  The current athletic physicals expire Saturday, June 13, 2026.

• On the night of the FREE physicals, the completed and signed athletic physical will stay at Cowan.  They will be processed and recorded into FinalForms.  They will be given back to those parents/guardians who would like the original athletic physical.  The original physicals will be kept at the Jr/Sr High School main office unless requested.  To request the original, please call the main office at 765-289-7128 on Friday, April 3rd or later, or email Stacy Barton at sbarton@cowan.k12.in.us with the subject line "2026-27 Athletic Physical".  In your message, please just let us know that you would like the original back.  We are glad to make those available for you after we record them into FinalForms.

 

The Big Idea is a program that may offer meat, fruits and vegetables, refrigerated and frozen items and/or dry goods along with other community resources. The next Big Idea giveaway will be March 19 from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Please bring bags to take food home. Additionally, the Blackhawk Closet will be set up with all sizes of clothing, shoes, coats, hygiene and cleaning products The Blackhawk Closet will also be accepting donations. Please park by and enter door #7. All families with a child in Cowan Schools are welcome.  

The Children’s Clothing Center of Delaware County, Inc., offers new and used clothing to Delaware County students in need. If you are interested, please contact the elementary office for a referral from the principal. The referral can then be completed and taken to the center. Hours of operation are listed on the referral form.

 

Attention Transfer Students: 2026-2027 Transfer Forms are located on the school website and must be completed by every transfer student each year. Please be sure to visit cowan.k12.in.us to complete the digital form or to download a printable form. Forms are also available in the school office.

KINDERGARTEN ENROLLMENT 2026-2027

Cowan Elementary School kindergarten enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year will be held on Wednesday, April 8, 2026. Parents will be notified by letter as to what time they should attend.  Please bring your child, his/her birth certificate, and two (2) pieces of verification showing proof of residency in the Cowan school district. Examples of proof of residency are: driver’s license, state I.D., voter registration, insurance forms, lease agreement, purchase agreement (if it denotes residency), property tax payment, mortgage receipt, moving bill, or utility bill.  The document must show address.  Families living outside of the Cowan district may apply to attend as well and are required to complete a transfer application. If you know of a child who will be entering kindergarten for the 2026-2027 school year, please pass this form along to them or ask them to call the office.  Children must be five (5) years of age by August 1, 2026.  Please call the elementary at 765-289-7129 as soon as possible to schedule a time slot to attend on April 8.
