What's Happening

Blackhawks What is High Steppin'?
High Steppin' is an academic related art.  Similar to a time where students might go to Gym, Music, Library, or Art, they come here.  We work on skills that will help the kids to be successful in class and in life in general.  I try to keep it as fun as possible.

High Steppin' is incorporating some new strategies with Conscious Discipline.  Check it out here!

I also like to use lots of hands-on materials and technology.  Here are just a few of the resources that your child may use:
Kahoot
Stem Kits
Learning Locks
Kiddle
Didax
Learning Palettes
F.U.N. Number Line System

Blackhawks Kindergarten
During High Steppin' Kindergarten students get the chance to play.  There are both dramatic and academic stations set out.  During this time, the kids are able to problem solve, develop interpersonal skills, and have fun.  School is tough, and in this class, I work to create a space where kids can be kids.

Blackhawks First Grade
First Grade High Steppin' is a mixed bag of activities.  There is still play that is incorporated, since so much can be learned in a playful setting.  There are also times where the students are challenged to do more traditional school activities.

Blackhawks Second Grade
Tier Time is a major focus of Second Grade High Steppin'.  A lot of the testing for the tiered rounds are done in this class, as well as review of the topics.  Success has been seen over the last two years implementing this program.  Students are gaining confidence in skills like math facts, that will carry them throughout their academic careers.

Blackhawks Third Grade
Did someone say testing?  IREAD and ILEARN are both new in Third Grade, and in this class, we try to prep for those as much as possible.  Standards that the state has said are most likely to be on the tests are the ones that I choose to focus on in High Steppin'.

Blackhawks Fourth Grade
High Steppin' in Fourth Grade is similar to Third in the testing aspect.  We do a lot to get ready for the types of questions that the kids could see on the test.  As the state releases information, I use it to design plans for the students.  Hopefully, once they see the information in a few places, it really sticks!
